Sameer Ashar. “Public Interest Lawyers and Resistance Movements.” California Law Review, vol. 95, (2007): 1879-1926.
This article examines how public interest lawyers engage with and support resistance movements that challenge the economic, political, and social consequences of globalization and neoliberalism. Focusing on activism within and beyond the United States, the article explores how lawyers work both against and within legal institutions—such as courts, legislatures, and regulatory bodies—to contest dominant power structures. It highlights the complex, often contradictory role lawyers play as both participants in and mediators of social justice struggles.
