Skadden accused of blocking lawyers from discussing firm’s deal with Trump

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom was accused of restricting internal discussions among its lawyers regarding the firm’s controversial deal with President Trump to avoid punitive executive orders targeting the firm. The National Institute for Workers’ Rights filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board, alleging that Skadden unlawfully interfered with employees’ rights to discuss working conditions. The firm, along with eight others, pledged nearly $1 billion in pro-Trump pro bono work and agreed to scale back diversity initiatives. The move sparked internal dissent, with associates resigning and alumni criticizing the firm for undermining democratic values. The NLRB will investigate whether Skadden violated labor laws amid broader concerns about law firms’ concessions to political pressure.
