Sudanese Lawyers Condemn Deadly RSF Shelling in Khartoum

On March 24, 2025, the Emergency Lawyers network in Sudan reported that at least five civilians were killed and dozens injured during paramilitary shelling on a mosque in eastern Khartoum. The attack, blamed on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), occurred during evening prayers and targeted non-combatants in the East Nile district.

This marks the second major civilian attack since the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) retook key sites, including the presidential palace, in central Khartoum. Lawyers on the ground continue to document alleged abuses by both warring parties as the conflict between the RSF and SAF escalates.

The RSF, which now controls large swaths of western Sudan, is reportedly forming a parallel government amid fears of a de facto national partition. As the humanitarian crisis deepens, pro-democracy lawyers remain vocal in calling for accountability and the protection of civilians under international law.
