Xin He

Professor Xin He is a Professor of Law, Mok Sau-King Professor in Law, and Chair of Law & Society whose work uses empirical methods to study China’s legal system, with particular interests in judicial processes, especially criminal justice, legal consciousness, and law and gender. He has authored several major books in English, including The Judicial System of China (2024), Divorces in China: Institutional Constraints and Gendered Outcomes (2021), and Embedded Courts: Judicial System of China (2017, with Kwai Hang Ng), as well as a Chinese-language book, The Researcher in the Street, reflecting on law and social science research. In addition to his scholarship, he supervises PhD students in these areas, and outside academia he is also an accomplished pingpong player, having won the men’s singles championship for his age group in Hong Kong’s Central and Western District in 2019.
