Iran: Defense Lawyer Elham Zeraatpisheh Released on Bail in Shiraz

This July 30 report from the IAPL Monitoring Committee on Attacks on Lawyers (Iran) documents the conditional release of defense lawyer Elham Zeraatpisheh on bail in Shiraz, alongside the recent arrest of attorney Astareh (Maryam) Ansari, a member of the Fars Bar Association, at her home. These cases are part of a broader campaign in which, according to the Center for Human Rights in Iran, at least 32 independent defense attorneys have been arrested, summoned, or imprisoned since January 2026. Human rights organizations characterize the prosecution of lawyers who defend protesters and political detainees as a systematic effort to strip defendants of independent legal representation and to intimidate the legal profession following the country’s post-protest crackdown.
