Eugene Huskey is Professor Emeritus at Stetson University, where he held the William R. Kenan, Jr. Chair from 1999 until his retirement in 2019. He earned his PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science and previously taught at Bowdoin College and Colgate University before joining Stetson in 1989. His scholarly interest in Russian affairs dates back to the late 1960s, when he began studying the Russian language, and was deepened through extensive field experience, including doctoral research at Moscow State University as an IREX scholar and more than 20 research trips to the region. His work spans Russian executive power, Soviet and post-Soviet law, and the politics of Kyrgyzstan, resulting in 60 academic articles and five influential books. A dedicated teacher, Huskey offered a wide range of courses in comparative politics, political theory, and law, and his excellence in teaching and research was recognized with multiple university awards.
