Congressional Letter on DOJ Ethics and Conflicts of Interest

In December 2025, a bipartisan group of Members of Congress sent a formal letter to Attorney General Pamela Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche raising serious concerns about potential conflicts of interest and ethical lapses within the U.S. Department of Justice. The letter documents a pattern of DOJ interventions, dismissals, and discretionary decisions in cases involving clients represented by Bradley (“Brad”) Bondi, the Attorney General’s brother, which appear to consistently favor those clients. Lawmakers highlight several high-profile cases—including federal criminal prosecutions that were abruptly dropped and a late DOJ intervention in Hawai‘i litigation—as well as the presidential pardon of a client represented by Mr. Bondi. Citing federal ethics regulations and DOJ internal rules, the signatories question whether proper recusals, screening procedures, and accountability mechanisms were in place, particularly following leadership changes at the Office of Professional Responsibility. The letter requests detailed documentation and explanations from DOJ to clarify how conflicts were handled and to ensure the impartial administration of justice.
