Maurene Comey Fired from U.S. Attorney’s Office Amid Political Turmoil

Maurene Comey, daughter of former FBI Director James Comey and a lead prosecutor in the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases, was abruptly fired from the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office in July 2025. No reason was given for her dismissal, which reportedly did not originate from the local office but likely from higher levels within the Department of Justice.

Comey, who served nearly a decade as a federal prosecutor, had recently been involved in the prosecution of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Her firing comes amid mounting pressure from Trump allies, right-wing media figures, and ongoing tensions surrounding unreleased Epstein documents. The dismissal follows broader upheaval at the Southern District of New York, where multiple prosecutors resigned earlier this year in protest over dropped corruption charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams.

Observers have linked her removal to political retribution, as her father is under renewed investigation by the Trump administration.
