Sky Ma’s research interests lie in comparative criminal procedure, law & tech, the legal profession, and evidence law. Sky was a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) and a Hause Global Fellow at NYU School of Law.

Sky served as an extern Judicial Clerk at the California Court of Appeal Second District of the United States of America. She also worked at the Supreme People’s Court of China and participated in the drafting of the Judicial Interpretation of the Criminal Procedure Law of China. She has published several papers on defense lawyers and criminal justice. In addition, Sky is the principal investigator in several research projects on law and technology funded by the China Law Society. She is currently working on two book projects: one on the criminal defense lawyers’ movement, and the other on the principles of judicial process in the digital age (under contract with Edward Elgar Publishing).
