Agnieszka Kubal is Associate Professor at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, University of Oxford, and a Research Fellow at Green Templeton College. A socio-legal scholar with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe and Russia, she has held academic posts at UCL, Harvard, and Oxford. Her research explores human rights, migration, and legal consciousness under authoritarianism and democratic backsliding.

She is the author of Immigration and Refugee Law in Russia (CUP, 2019) and Socio-Legal Integration (Routledge, 2012), and co-editor of A Sociology of Justice in Russia (CUP, 2018). She currently leads the UKRI/ERC-funded project Who are the Humans Behind Human Rights in Eastern Europe and Russia? and has contributed to shaping ECtHR jurisprudence on asylum. Her work bridges legal sociology, human rights, and area studies, with wide-reaching academic and policy impact.
