Nigeria is widely recognized as one of the most corrupt countries globally, raising serious concerns about the role of the legal profession in this crisis. Despite the public’s reliance on the law to curb corruption and protect their rights, the legal system has largely failed to check these destructive tendencies. This article examines how lawyers—as judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys—may contribute to sustaining corruption, while also exploring their potential role as agents of social change. To lead Nigeria’s renewed fight against corruption and societal reform, lawyers must reject corrupt practices and uphold the highest ethical standards.
