Vitor Martins Dias is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at Butler University in Indianapolis. A law and society scholar, his research investigates how legal, political, and social actors shape institutions and organizations across global and local contexts—producing social change while also reproducing structural inequalities. His recent work explores how these dynamics influence economic relationships between countries and contribute to the climate crisis. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed and law review outlets, including World Development, Sustainability Science, Law & Society Review, Law & Social Inquiry, University of Illinois Law Review, University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform, Sociology of Development, and Cambridge University Press. In addition, he studies legal mobilization and climate governance, as well as inequality and systemic racism within the legal profession. His work on the challenges faced by Black lawyers in U.S. law firms builds on longstanding affiliations with Harvard Law School’s Center on the Legal Profession and Indiana University–Bloomington’s Stewart Center on the Global Legal Profession.
