Israeli former leaders and security chiefs threaten legal action over ‘Jewish terrorism’

Dozens of prominent Israelis — including two former prime ministers (Ehud Olmert and Ehud Barak), former heads of the country’s security services, retired judges, a Nobel laureate, and leading cultural figures — have threatened legal action against the Israeli government over what they describe as state-enabled “Jewish terrorism” in the occupied West Bank, according to a leaked letter reported by the Guardian on June 24, 2026. The letter, described as a “final warning,” demands that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior security officials take immediate steps to halt violence against Palestinians, warning that the signatories will petition Israel’s high court if they fail to act.

The signatories catalogue years of attacks — including killings, sexual assault, arson, and theft — carried out, they say, with near-total impunity, and accuse the government of enabling the violence to advance an agenda of ethnic cleansing and annexation. They argue the military has been complicit through both inaction and direct participation, and warn that the violence breaks Israeli and international law, endangers Israel’s security, and fuels antisemitism abroad. The Guardian notes that UN data records at least 1,100 Palestinian civilians killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers in the West Bank since 2020, with no one charged. The prime minister’s office and other agencies approached for comment did not respond.
