State Attorneys General Challenge Trump Mail Voting Order
A coalition of Democratic officials from 23 states, including several state attorneys general and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, has sued the Trump administration over a new executive order that seeks to impose federal control over mail voting, arguing that it violates the Constitution by interfering with states’ authority to administer elections. The order would require the U.S. Postal Service to restrict ballot delivery to pre-approved mail voters, mandate unique barcodes on mail ballot envelopes, and direct the Department of Homeland Security to compile and share lists of adult citizens with states before federal elections. The attorneys general and other state officials argue that these measures are unconstitutional, unprecedented, and politically motivated, while the White House defends them as efforts to secure elections.
